Experience history in motion at the Mid-Hants Railway ‘Watercress Line’. Travel by Steam or heritage diesel train through 10 miles of beautiful Hampshire countryside between Alresford and Alton. Many of our locomotives have been fully restored by the engineering skills of volunteers.
You can either join the line at the Georgian town of Alresford (near Winchester) or Alton, a bustling market town. On your journey you can stop at Ropley and Medstead & Four Marks stations and marvel at their preserved history.
Special events include ‘Day out with Thomas’ (Easter & August), War on the Line, Wizard Week and many more! We also run pre - booked Luxury Dining trains called ‘Watercress Belle’ on various Saturdays, ‘Countryman’ on selected Sundays and Real Ale Trains throughout the year. Pay & display parking at Alresford (Free Sundays & Bank Holidays) and Alton, Refreshments, Picnic areas, Gift shops and Children’s Play area. Find us via A31 Winchester to Alton road.
